President Tebboune Orders Opening of Direct Air Link Between Algeria and Chad, Underscoring Algeria’s Commitment to African Integration

Algiers – September 2025 – In a decision laden with strategic significance, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has instructed the immediate opening of a direct air route between Algiers and N’Djamena, the capital of Chad. The directive, issued on Thursday during his visit to the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers, is part of Algeria’s broader vision to reinforce bonds of cooperation, mobility, and solidarity with fellow African nations.
President Tebboune explicitly tasked the CEO of Air Algérie with prioritizing the launch of this new commercial line, placing it at the forefront of the company’s development agenda. The move is seen not merely as a logistical enhancement but as a tangible instrument of economic diplomacy, creating new corridors for trade, investment, and human exchange between Algeria and Chad.
Fostering Economic Expansion and Export Infrastructure
In parallel, President Tebboune ordered the allocation of a dedicated port for cement exports, reinforcing Algeria’s ambition to become a hub for industrial supply across Africa. Touring the pavilions of the fair, he commended the dynamism of Algerian startups, particularly those active in medical reagent production, as well as innovative enterprises in electronics and large-scale construction. “These companies embody the spirit of a new Algeria—capable of meeting domestic needs while projecting itself onto the continental stage,” he declared.
The President engaged with representatives of national, African, and international enterprises, gaining insights into transformative projects that highlight Algeria’s evolving industrial profile. From electronic industries to major infrastructure works, Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s determination to advance megaprojects of continental importance. His visit culminated with a symbolic stop at the stand of the African Union, underscoring Algeria’s central role in shaping Africa’s collective future.
A Vision for an Integrated and Self-Reliant Africa
Earlier that day, President Tebboune presided over the official opening ceremony of the 4th edition of IATF at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center. In his keynote address, he reaffirmed Algeria’s pride in hosting this landmark event, asserting: “Algeria will actively contribute to the collective efforts aimed at meeting the challenge of Africa’s development. Our nation’s destiny is inseparable from that of the continent.”
The 2025 edition of the IATF gathers over 2,000 companies from across Africa and beyond, including nearly 200 Algerian firms, alongside delegations representing 140 countries. With an expected attendance of 35,000 professional visitors, the fair is projected to yield trade and investment agreements exceeding 44 billion dollars, consolidating its status as the continent’s premier platform for economic convergence.
