Algiers, Algeria | June 6th, 2025 — In a solemn display of spiritual devotion and national unity, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, performed the Eid al-Adha prayer on Friday morning at the monumental Djamaâ El Djazaïr in Mohammadia, Algiers. The ceremony unfolded in an atmosphere imbued with serenity and reverence, marking one of the holiest days in Islam.

President Tebboune was joined by senior state officials, members of the government, representatives of the Muslim diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria, and throngs of faithful worshippers who gathered in this architectural and civilizational landmark to celebrate the sacred occasion.

The rector of Djamaâ El Djazaïr, Sheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hassani, delivered the Eid sermon in which he extolled the virtues of the pilgrimage and elaborated on the profound spiritual significance of Eid al-Adha. He emphasized the concepts of sacrifice, humility, and closeness to Allah through the ritual act of animal sacrifice—recalling the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim El-Khalil (Abraham). The Sheikh also underlined the religious festival as a sacred opportunity to reflect the luminous values of Islam and elevate the dignity of the Muslim Ummah.

In his address, Sheikh Al Hassani called on the faithful to increase their good deeds on this blessed day—through acts of charity towards the poor, strengthening family ties, promoting forgiveness, reconciliation, and fostering brotherhood. He reminded the congregation that such deeds are integral to nurturing a cohesive and compassionate society.

He specifically addressed Algeria’s youth, urging them to channel their energy toward constructive pursuits, to value their time, and to commit themselves to the acquisition of knowledge. He warned against the dangers threatening younger generations and stressed the critical importance of safeguarding their future, describing them as “the backbone of the nation and the engine of its renewal.”

Turning to the situation in occupied Palestine, the rector strongly condemned the ongoing aggression perpetrated by the Zionist occupier against a defenseless population. He reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Palestinian people’s resistance to reclaim their land and dignity, drawing a direct parallel to Algeria’s historic struggle for liberation during its glorious Revolution.

In conclusion, Sheikh Al Hassani issued a fervent appeal to preserve Algeria’s unity and protect the homeland from looming threats, reinforcing the importance of vigilance and cohesion in the face of regional and global challenges.

Following the prayer, President Tebboune graciously received Eid greetings from high-ranking state figures, members of the diplomatic corps, and numerous Algerian citizens, in a symbolic gesture that reinforced national solidarity and the unbreakable bond between the leadership and the people.
