President Tebboune Reaffirms Algeria’s Non-Negotiable Principles, Full Support for Palestine and Western Sahara

In a resolute address during his periodic meeting with national press representatives, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to the right of oppressed peoples to self-determination, reiterating that Algeria will continue to defend Palestine and Western Sahara “until the end,” and rejecting any foreign interference in regional crises.

Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | During his periodic meeting with representatives of the national press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune delivered a firm and principled stance on Algeria’s foreign policy, particularly its historical support for the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes. “Algeria will support Palestine and Western Sahara until the very end,” President Tebboune declared, underlining that these are matters of principle embedded in Algeria’s national identity. “These principles are in our DNA. They are not subject to compromise,” he emphasized.

In a world increasingly driven by geopolitical bargaining, Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to moral consistency and international law, stressing that the country’s support for the oppressed and colonized stems from its revolutionary heritage and constitutional values. “We support the right of peoples to self-determination—not as a slogan, but as a fundamental component of our foreign policy,” the president noted, adding that this consistent stance has earned Algeria respect globally, even from actors who do not share the same convictions.

Tebboune also addressed Algeria’s position on regional stability, particularly in relation to the ongoing situation in neighboring Mali. He reminded that the Algiers Agreement—brokered by Algeria and endorsed by both the African Union and the United Nations—remains the legitimate framework for peace. However, he issued a veiled criticism of Mali’s military rulers, cautioning against their reliance on coercive tactics and foreign mercenaries, particularly referencing “Africa-Corp,” formerly Wagner. “The path of force is a dead end,” he stated. “Such approaches are misguided and ultimately counterproductive.”

While reiterating Algeria’s policy of non-interference, Tebboune was equally clear that Algeria will not offer unconditional assistance. “We do not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, but we cannot help those who reject our hand. That said, we will never abandon our approach of good neighborliness and our extended hand of fraternity.”

In this vein, President Tebboune was diplomatic yet firm, stating that Algeria remains committed to its non-alignment policy. “We are not aligned with any bloc. Our only compass is the defense of Algeria’s interests and its sovereign choices. Relations between states are governed by interests—not emotions, not coercion.”
