President Tebboune Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Political Dialogue: A Call for Unity and Democratic Consolidation

Algiers – September 2025 – In a resolute address before representatives of the national press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advancing an inclusive political dialogue as the cornerstone of democratic consolidation in Algeria. Stressing that “no political formation will remain in orbit,” the Head of State underscored that inclusiveness is an essential condition to safeguard national cohesion and strengthen democratic practices.
“Our priority is to preserve the country both economically and in terms of security. Internal management and institutional choices remain open to debate,” the President declared, highlighting the plurality of political visions currently in circulation—ranging from advocates of direct governance and a parliamentary system, to those who favor preserving the presidential model or introducing consultative bodies alongside popular will.
“All these ideas deserve to be heard. I am opposed to none of them. But political dialogue must be inclusive, whether institutional or popular,” he emphasized, pointing out Algeria’s longstanding experience in this domain.
The President further revealed that efforts to advance the long-anticipated draft law on political parties have been ongoing for five months. He explained that this pivotal legislation is designed to define party policies, the modalities of their creation, and the reciprocal commitments between the State and political organizations. The objective, he stated, is to reach a broad consensus capable of uniting around twenty political currents within a framework of national unity.
Initially, Tebboune had considered setting the deadline for this dialogue by the end of 2025. “But the adoption of the draft law has not yet taken place. We are working on the modalities of its organization. Building a strong and resilient democratic Republic requires clear dialogue and precise rules, for democracy cannot be mistaken for disorder,” he insisted.
On the question of his relationship with political parties, the President recalled that he regularly receives party leaders who request meetings, reaffirming that political formations remain a driving force of democratic life in Algeria.
Addressing claims of a supposed “media lockout,” President Tebboune responded unequivocally: “Public television opens access to all.” However, he clarified that decisions on coverage ultimately rest with the channel’s director, who must determine whether such encounters are of sufficient interest to the broader public.
