President Tebboune Receives Serbian Prime Minister Macut: “Bilateral Relations Will Flourish in the Near Term”
By Dr. Hana Saada
President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune received on Tuesday the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Duro Macut, who is undertaking an official visit to Algeria at the head of a high-level delegation, in a meeting that reflects the continuity of political dialogue between the two countries and a shared intent to consolidate bilateral cooperation.
The audience, held in the presence of senior Algerian officials, provided an opportunity to reaffirm the depth of relations between Algiers and Belgrade—relations that, as emphasized by the Serbian Prime Minister, are rooted in a longstanding tradition of friendship and mutual respect. Speaking following the meeting, Macut underlined that the ties between Algeria and Serbia “do not date from today,” expressing confidence that they are set to “flourish very soon” through diversified drivers of development.
His remarks pointed to a forward-looking perspective centered on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, while maintaining the political foundations that have historically characterized the relationship. In this regard, Macut highlighted a convergence in diplomatic outlooks, noting that Serbia’s commitment to a neutral and independent foreign policy finds a natural counterpart in Algeria’s own approach to sovereignty and non-alignment.
This alignment, he suggested, constitutes a solid basis for advancing joint initiatives and exploring new avenues of partnership. The Serbian Prime Minister expressed conviction that both countries are well positioned to deepen existing projects while identifying additional opportunities capable of broadening the scope of bilateral engagement. He further indicated that the trajectory of relations is expected to follow an upward curve in the near future, reflecting both political will and the availability of complementary interests.
The meeting also served to underscore the institutional dimension of the relationship, with the presence of key figures from the Algerian executive and diplomatic apparatus. Among those attending were the Director of the Presidency’s Cabinet, Boualem Boualem, the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, the President’s diplomatic adviser Amar Abba, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, as well as Algeria’s ambassador to Serbia, Mahrez Fatah.
