President Tebboune to Deliver Inaugural State of the Nation Address Before Joint Parliament Session

ALGIERS- In a historic move, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune will address a joint session of Algeria’s Parliament on Monday, December 25, to deliver the inaugural “State of the Nation” speech. This significant event marks the President’s commitment to an annual tradition, with the aim of fostering transparency and addressing the nation’s key challenges and achievements.

The presidential decree (23-462), signed on December 19, 2023, and published in the latest issue of the official gazette, officially calls for the convocation of the Parliament in its two chambers, which will be jointly assembled for this special occasion.

The decree outlines that the extraordinary session’s agenda includes the opening of the session and the President’s “State of the Nation” address. The parliamentary session will conclude upon the completion of the specified agenda.

This announcement follows President Tebboune’s recent decision to establish an annual tradition wherein he will deliver a comprehensive address before both chambers of Parliament convened in a joint session. The move is seen as a step toward enhancing institutional practices and ensuring direct communication between the President and the legislative branches.

The “State of the Nation” address is expected to cover a wide range of topics, providing an overview of the country’s current status, addressing challenges, and highlighting the government’s achievements. This new practice aligns with President Tebboune’s commitment to promoting openness, accountability, and inclusivity in Algerian governance.
