Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | In a resolute declaration during his periodic meeting with national media representatives, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed that the country has fully embarked on the path of digital transformation — but on its own terms, with sovereignty, vigilance, and strategic foresight as its cornerstones.

“We are entering the digital era head-on,” stated the Head of State, underscoring that digitalization is not an option, but an inescapable imperative of our time. Algeria, he insisted, is no longer lagging behind. It is now positioning itself deliberately and securely within the global digital ecosystem, prioritizing national interests and technological sovereignty in every stride forward.

According to President Tebboune, while Algeria fully acknowledges the unstoppable march of the digital revolution, it refuses to be a passive recipient of foreign technological hegemony. Instead, the country is choosing to “digitalize at its own pace, under its own conditions,” balancing integration with protection, ambition with control.

A key element of this strategy is the construction of a state-of-the-art national data center, currently underway in partnership with a major Chinese technology group. This infrastructure will serve as a digital stronghold, enabling Algeria to securely host, store, and manage its data resources independently — a move widely regarded as essential in the age of cyberwars and information warfare.

President Tebboune warned that in this era of fourth-generation wars — where fake news, cyber threats, and electromagnetic sabotage have become strategic weapons — national security must never be sacrificed on the altar of modernization. “Digital development must never come at the expense of security,” he said. He made it clear that the risks of disabling a nation’s electrical grid, internet infrastructure, or media ecosystem through cyberattacks are no longer theoretical, and Algeria must be prepared on all fronts.

The President also emphasized that digitalization, for Algeria, is not a mere technical upgrade but a civilizational shift — one that will fundamentally redefine governance, economic competitiveness, administrative transparency, and citizen empowerment. In this new era, he stressed, “success depends on data sovereignty and the capacity to shield the nation’s digital arteries from manipulation, infiltration, and foreign control.”

From digitized public services to smart infrastructure, Algeria’s transformation is already visible across several sectors. Yet, the President was adamant that this transition must be secured — not only in technical terms, but also in its cultural and geopolitical dimensions. As he reiterated, “Algeria is not simply joining the digital world; it is entering it with determination, clarity of vision, and a commitment to remain master of its destiny.”
