Algiers, Algeria | July 7th, 2025 — In a keynote speech delivered at the opening of the National Summit on “Youth and Political Participation,” Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune positioned the country’s youth at the heart of Algeria’s future—both politically and economically. Declaring their empowerment a “strategic national priority,” Tebboune outlined an ambitious framework that seeks to break with the legacy of exclusion and usher in a new era of inclusive governance and innovation-driven growth.

“The Algeria of tomorrow,” he declared, “will be the product of the commitment shown by our youth today.”

President Tebboune called on state institutions to embrace this vision by fostering participatory governance and positioning youth not merely as beneficiaries of public policy, but as co-architects of the national agenda. This, he argued, requires dismantling outdated mentalities and institutional inertia in favor of openness, inclusion, and trust in youth potential.

Unleashing the Economic Power of Algerian Youth

Beyond political integration, Tebboune laid out a robust roadmap for economic emancipation. Citing key initiatives such as the national unemployment benefit, reforms to SME support programs, and the recently enhanced self-employment status—now extended to include micro-importation—the president presented a vision of youth as creators of wealth, not passive job seekers.

He pointed to the growing startup ecosystem as a testament to this shift, with thousands of entrepreneurial ventures and micro-projects already launched. Government efforts, he noted, are now focused on liberating economic initiative, modernizing vocational training, and expanding access to diverse financing tools.

“These foundations are essential to cultivating a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators capable of leading Algeria’s economic transformation,” Tebboune said, urging deeper linkages between universities and the private sector to convert academic ingenuity into market-ready solutions.

The speech marked a critical moment in Algeria’s political evolution, positioning youth not as a demographic challenge but as a strategic asset. It also underscored the president’s long-term vision of a knowledge-based, diversified economy underpinned by grassroots innovation and participatory governance.

In closing, Tebboune reiterated that Algeria’s progress will depend on its ability to trust, empower, and invest in its youth: “We are building a nation where the voices, talents, and dreams of our young people are not only heard—but are leading the way.”
