Algiers, Algeria– Sunday, July 20, 2025 | In a display of pan-African unity and strategic diplomacy, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Zimbabwean counterpart, Emmerson Mnangagwa, held a joint press conference this Saturday in Algiers, following the official signing of multiple bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding across key sectors. The high-level engagement comes at the conclusion of a two-day state visit by President Mnangagwa, which President Tebboune described as a milestone reflecting a “shared political will” to deepen and institutionalize cooperation between the two nations.

“This visit, and the outcomes of the 4th session of the Joint Commission, mark a turning point in our bilateral relations,” stated President Tebboune. “We have taken valuable steps forward by establishing common legal frameworks that will strengthen and sustain our strategic partnership.”

Among the most significant developments is the official establishment of an Algeria-Zimbabwe Joint Business Council, a mechanism designed to bolster commercial ties and foster cross-investment opportunities. President Tebboune emphasized that economic operators from both nations will be encouraged to explore new frontiers of collaboration and investment across diverse sectors.

In a joint affirmation of mutual sovereignty and African agency, both leaders voiced strong opposition to foreign interference in the internal affairs of nations. “We have reiterated our unwavering respect for the sovereignty of states and our categorical rejection of external meddling. African problems must be solved with African solutions,” Tebboune declared firmly, echoing Algeria’s longstanding commitment to regional self-determination.

The two heads of state also engaged in a broad and candid exchange of views regarding pressing global issues. Of particular concern was the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which President Tebboune forcefully condemned. “We denounce the crimes committed against our Palestinian brothers and reaffirm our resolute support for their legitimate right to establish an independent state,” he said, underscoring the moral and diplomatic alignment between Algiers and Harare on the Palestinian question.

Similarly, the Western Sahara dossier was highlighted as a continuing decolonization struggle. “We jointly reaffirmed our support for the just cause of the Sahrawi people, the last African colony. We fully back the United Nations’ efforts to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination,” President Tebboune stated with conviction.

The Algerian leader also underscored his country’s firm commitment to supporting the African Union in its peace and security agenda. “Algeria remains steadfast in its support for continental efforts to combat terrorism and transnational organized crime,” he asserted.

In a gesture underscoring the strategic economic vision of both nations, President Tebboune extended a renewed invitation to President Mnangagwa to attend the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair, a flagship event aimed at accelerating economic integration across the continent.
