President Tebboune’s Gesture to Algerians Abroad

Algiers- Algeria, May 8, 2024 – In an announcement issued on Wednesday, the Algerian Consulate in Metz, France, disclosed a significant initiative taken by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for Algerians residing overseas.

According to the consulate, Algerian nationals living abroad are now permitted to enter the national territory by presenting their identity card in an exceptional and derogatory manner.

This decision, implemented in anticipation of the summer season and aimed at facilitating the return of Algerian citizens to their homeland during this period, will remain in effect until October 31, 2024.

“The Algerian authorities have decided to allow, exceptionally and derogatively, Algerian citizens holding valid foreign passports to enter and exit the national territory without the requirement of obtaining a visa in advance until 31/10/2024, based on one of the following options: 1 – A valid foreign passport accompanied by an Algerian biometric and electronic national identity card (CNIBE), even if the latter has expired. 2 – A valid foreign passport accompanied by an Algerian biometric passport for individuals who do not possess a CNIBE,” stated the announcement.

To ensure the smooth execution of this process, children of the Algerian diaspora benefiting from these facilitations must present the same documents upon entering and exiting the national territory, the statement underlines.

This landmark decision brings welcome news to our fellow Algerians residing abroad, offering them greater convenience and flexibility in traveling to and from Algeria.
