President Tebboune’s Message at the 34th Arab Summit: Palestine Remains Our Top Priority, Reform of the Arab League Imperative

In an address delivered at the Baghdad summit, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune calls for urgent Arab unity and a decisive overhaul of the Arab League to confront escalating regional challenges and defend Palestinian rights against systematic Zionist oppression.

 

Algiers, Algeria | May 17th, 2025 —  In a message delivered on his behalf by Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf at the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering stance on critical Arab issues, with the Palestinian cause at the forefront. President Tebboune condemned the ongoing systematic attempts to erase Palestinian rights under the guise of a so-called “peace” that serves only Zionist narrow interests and undermines regional security.

Highlighting that this fabricated peace is constructed on the ruins of Palestinian rights and jeopardizes the stability and security of neighboring Arab states, Tebboune warned against the unchecked Zionist dominance that threatens the entire region. He sharply criticized foreign interference as a destabilizing force exacerbating political, security, and economic crises in numerous Arab countries.

President Tebboune stressed that the Arab region is at a pivotal and decisive juncture that demands urgent reform of the Arab League’s structures and mechanisms. He emphasized that the current realities and mounting geopolitical challenges render the original framework of the League obsolete. For Algeria, revitalizing and empowering the Arab League is not a mere option but an urgent necessity.

Calling for renewed solidarity around the Palestinian cause, Tebboune declared it a historical, legal, ethical, and civilizational duty rather than a favor to anyone. He reiterated Algeria’s full support for Lebanon and Syria in safeguarding their sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscoring their stability as integral to the broader regional security.

On the internal Arab front, Tebboune urged intensified Arab efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia, warning that the absence of a unified Arab role has left these nations vulnerable to foreign meddling and jeopardized their futures.

Concluding his message, President Tebboune affirmed Algeria’s committed representation of Arab concerns during its current term on the United Nations Security Council, hoping that these efforts have effectively served the collective interests of the Arab world.
