Algiers – December 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune delivered, this Wednesday, a solemn and deeply evocative message on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the historic demonstrations of 11 December 1960, recalling their decisive role in shaping the trajectory of the national liberation struggle and consolidating the unbreakable bond between the Algerian people and the ideals of the Revolution.
Opening his address with spiritual reverence, the President situated this commemoration within the memory of a nation whose resistance was inscribed in every street and public square during those historic days. He emphasized that the massive crowds, the resounding chants, and the flags raised high were a living testament to a unified people responding wholeheartedly to the call of the Declaration of 1 November 1954. These scenes, he added, illustrated the unwavering faith of Algerians in fulfilling the Revolution’s objectives—fully, completely, and without concession.
President Tebboune drew a vivid connection between the resolve of those demonstrators and the heroism of the men and women who, from the dawn of the armed struggle, embraced sacrifice in every corner of the country. He recalled, with particular resonance, the iconic words of martyr Larbi Ben M’hidi: “Throw the Revolution into the street, and the people will take it up,” affirming that the 11 December demonstrations marked a decisive turning point in amplifying the Revolution’s international echo and moral legitimacy.
Reaffirming fidelity to the Revolution’s eternal message, the President invoked the legacy of Chahid Didouche Mourad—“If we die, defend our memories”—underscoring Algeria’s collective pride in a revolutionary heritage that continues to inspire unity, resilience, and national coherence. This legacy, he insisted, equips the Algerian people to discern the mechanisms of today’s regional and global power struggles and to detect the workings of mercenary propaganda in all its forms.
President Tebboune highlighted the people’s rooted identity, one forged in the depths of an ancient history and cemented through shared faith, diversity, and unity. From the crucible of the national tragedy of the 1990s to every test the nation has faced, the Algerian people have demonstrated a steadfast capacity to safeguard national cohesion. Today, he asserted, this same people stand more determined than ever to confront attempts to undermine the national project, guiding the country toward a future aligned with the aspirations of its youth and worthy of its millennia-old history.
Reflecting on this historic anniversary, the President stressed the importance of drawing lessons from both the victories and challenges of state-building since independence. These historic milestones, he said, must serve as a foundation for fair and clear assessments of the efforts required across all sectors and levels of governance to consolidate Algeria’s socioeconomic indicators and accelerate the country’s progress toward the ranks of ambitious and influential nations.
President Tebboune expressed full confidence that Algeria will inevitably achieve these goals, driven by loyalty to the oath of the martyrs. He concluded by honoring their pure souls, extending heartfelt greetings to the nation’s moudjahidine and moudjahidate, and reaffirming the eternal values they embodied.

May prayers and peace be upon the noblest of Messengers.
Dear citizens,
On this memorable day of national resistance and armed struggle, we proudly commemorate the sixty-fifth (65th) anniversary of the demonstrations of December 11, 1960 — a historic moment that manifested, across streets and public squares, the unanimous adherence of an entire people to the call of the Declaration of November 1, 1954, as well as its unwavering faith in the full and uncompromising realization of the Revolution’s objectives.
The immense crowds… the resonating voices… the flags raised high and the piercing ululations during those demonstrations constituted, in those historical moments, an eloquent celebration of the enduring bond with the men and women who, since the dawn of November 1, had embarked upon the harsh path of the War of Liberation, willingly embracing sacrifice and selflessness in cities, villages, and hamlets, so that Algeria might live.
These moments in the march of the Revolution were the resounding confirmation of the famous words of the emblematic martyr Larbi Ben M’hidi: “Throw the Revolution into the street and the people will seize it.” They marked a decisive turning point in amplifying the international resonance of a Revolution whose popular momentum—steeped in supreme principles and noble aims—stood as a witness before history.
As we grant these principles and objectives the place befitting their grandeur, in fidelity to the eternal message and in tribute to the legacy of the symbolic martyr Didouche Mourad—“If we come to die, defend our memories”—we reaffirm our pride in the authenticity of our glorious revolutionary heritage. This heritage lives in the consciousness of every Algerian woman and man, serving as a source of unity and strength for our people and as its unifying reference.
It is a heritage that enables the valiant Algerian people, amid current regional and international circumstances, to discern the mechanisms of intelligent and targeted wars of interests. From this heritage emerges a national awareness capable of unveiling the underpinnings of mercenary propaganda, in all its forms, as well as the intentions of those who allow themselves to be drawn into such schemes to undermine the State and harm its interests.
A people born from the depths of an ancient history… a people permanently united and fused within an Algerian identity rooted in the land, embracing diversity, and unified in belief… a people who stood as one national front during the years of the bloody national tragedy and throughout every difficult trial. Today, this people is more determined than ever to guide the march of the present with vigilance against attempts to compromise its national project, directing the compass toward the future of a generation aspiring to live in a country worthy of its dreams — in an Algeria that reflects its ambitions; in a society that celebrates the talents and competencies of its daughters and sons and invests their capacities in a genuine transformative dynamic aimed at consolidating the foundations and milestones of sustainable development at home and affirming its active role and recognized standing abroad.
As I bow with you, on this 65th anniversary of the December 11 demonstrations, in reverence to the sacrifices of the valiant Algerian people, I wish to recall that this anniversary — like other glorious historical milestones — invites reflection on the lessons drawn from the stages of building the independent national State, through both its victories and the difficulties it faced in particular circumstances and periods. These lessons must serve as a point of departure and a motivation for a fair assessment of the scale of efforts required from all, at all levels and positions, to complete the strengthening of the socioeconomic indicators that the Algerian people have succeeded in achieving since they entrusted us with their confidence, and to adapt to a faster and more efficient pace in order to join the march of ambitious and influential states.
We shall inevitably reach this objective in the near future, in loyalty to the oath of the martyrs, as we pay tribute to their pure souls. On this occasion, we extend our warm salutations and our deep respect to their companions, the moudjahidate and moudjahidine.
