Prime Minister Installs New Governor of Bank of Algeria

ALGIERS, February 25, 2026 โ Acting on behalf of the Head of State, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb presided on Wednesday over the official installation ceremony of Mohamed Lamine Lebou as Governor of the Bank of Algeria.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister underscored that the appointment comes at a time marked by sustained economic momentum, driven by the major structuring projects launched under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
He emphasized the major challenges accompanying this phase of transformation, particularly the imperative of consolidating financial stability, strengthening governance mechanisms, and promoting greater transparency within the national banking system.
The Prime Minister also called for close coordination among all actors in the financial sector in order to inject renewed dynamism into the banking industry and ensure effective support for economic projects. This approach, he noted, must be fully aligned with the Stateโs strategic orientations and within the framework of the ongoing economic reforms.
Finally, he urged the leadership of the Bank of Algeria, along with all stakeholders, to work in a spirit of teamwork and complementarity to improve the performance of the national financial system, sustainably support growth, and reinforce the resilience of the Algerian economy in the face of current regional and international challenges.
