Algiers, Algeria | November 06th, 2024 — Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui inaugurated the 27th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) on Wednesday, marking the official opening of Algeria’s premier cultural event held at the Palace of Expositions, SAFEX, from November 6 to 16. The ceremony, organized under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, welcomed numerous dignitaries, including Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, the President’s advisor on education, higher education, vocational training, and culture, along with several government officials, Sheikh Abdelrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Culture and this year’s guest of honor, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria.
This year’s SILA, held under the theme “Read to Triumph,” aligns with Algeria’s celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Glorious November 1st Revolution. Bringing together a record 1,007 publishers from 40 countries, including 290 Algerian publishers, the fair showcases more than 300,000 book titles, embodying Algeria’s cultural diversity and commitment to intellectual growth.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Larbaoui visited several exhibition stands, beginning with the People’s National Army (ANP) pavilion, where he reviewed publications from the National Center for Military History Studies and Research, the Higher Military School of Information and Communication, and the National Military Publications Center, publisher of the magazine El Djeïch. SILA offers a space for both local and international readers to explore a vast array of works, with the doors opening to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting Thursday.
