Productive Families: New Decree Grants Financial Aid Ranging from 800,000 to 1 Million DZD

Algiers – September 2025 – In a step aimed at empowering vulnerable households and fostering grassroots economic initiatives, the Algerian government has enacted a new executive decree establishing the conditions and modalities of benefit from the ambitious “productive family” program. Published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette, decree n°25-236 dated September 9, 2025, lays the foundation for targeted socio-economic support designed to stimulate self-reliance and revive traditional crafts and local production.
The decree stipulates that financial assistance, ranging from 8 to 10 million centimes (the equivalent of 800,000 to 1,000,000 Algerian dinars), will be allocated to each qualifying productive family. This support will not be delivered in cash but rather in the form of material, equipment, or tools directly linked to the professional activity in question. The scheme covers fathers, mothers, and women who assume responsibility for their parents or siblings, thereby broadening its scope of social protection.
The array of activities eligible for this state-backed assistance is strikingly diverse, extending from traditional handcrafts such as sewing, embroidery, wool spinning, weaving, pottery, ceramics, woodwork, leatherwork, and metalwork, to culinary practices including cooking, pastry, and artisanal pasta production. Equally covered are jewelry-making, decorative crafts, agricultural endeavors, as well as the valorization of agricultural products through fruit drying, natural oil extraction, and distillation. Livestock farming and beekeeping are also expressly included, signaling a holistic approach to household-based productivity.
Critically, the decree makes clear that this assistance is strictly reserved for families without any source of income and who have never previously benefited from government aid or state-sponsored support programs. Applications must be submitted to the provincial directorates of social action and solidarity, ensuring a regulated and transparent distribution mechanism.
