Rekhroukh: Algerian Enterprises Poised to Secure Strategic Market Shares Across Africa

Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, has underscored the country’s strategic ambition to propel its enterprises into the African economic sphere, securing significant market shares through robust infrastructure development and regional integration. Speaking on the sidelines of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), Rekhroukh emphasized that Algeria’s long-standing investments in roads, railways, and cross-border connectivity are now bearing fruit for continental trade.
“Algeria has heavily invested in basic infrastructure, particularly in its road and rail networks, which today stand as the backbone of Africa’s economic integration,” Rekhroukh affirmed. He highlighted the trans-Saharan highway as a tangible achievement, no longer a vision but a completed reality that cements Algeria’s role as a continental hub.
The minister further stressed the significance of the economic corridor set to traverse the Sahara and link multiple African states, alongside the ambitious railway project launched under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Portions of this vast rail network have already been completed, with operational sections now connecting Algiers to Algeria’s deep south. The project is designed to extend seamlessly into Niger and Mali, before reaching deeper into the heart of Africa.
On the economic front, Rekhroukh revealed that several agreements are in the pipeline during IATF-2025, particularly in the field of technical studies and project planning. These conventions, he explained, will enable the upgrading and capacity-building of national construction firms, equipping them to compete effectively and seize lucrative contracts across the African continent.
“IATF-2025 is undoubtedly a success, and our national economy will be the direct beneficiary,” the minister asserted, pointing to the fair as both a catalyst for new opportunities and a confirmation of Algeria’s growing stature in Africa’s development agenda.
