Rezig Launches Nationwide Export Operation Involving 35 Cargo Shipments Across 17 Countries, Signalling a New Phase for Algeria’s Non-Hydrocarbon Ambitions

By Dr. Hana Saada

In a move presented as one of the most expansive coordinated export operations in recent years, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, has officially launched a large-scale international shipment initiative involving 35 cargo consignments of locally produced goods destined for 17 countries across Europe, the Arab world, Africa, and the Americas.

The operation, launched from Tizi Ouzou in conjunction with the opening of the National Cheese and Dairy Products Fair, was conducted in real time through videoconference links connecting 13 wilayas, underscoring the increasing institutionalisation of Algeria’s export logistics framework and the state’s stated ambition to diversify its economic base beyond hydrocarbons.

The exported goods span a notably diversified industrial and agricultural portfolio, including tomatoes, fruits, dairy products, processed foods, dates, household goods, detergents, paper products, packaging materials, ceramics, as well as construction inputs such as cement, clinker, and reinforcing steel. This broad product spectrum reflects a strategic attempt to reposition Algerian industry as a multi-sector export actor rather than a narrowly resource-dependent economy.

According to official figures, the operation mobilised production and export units distributed across key industrial regions including Algiers, Oran, Skikda, Annaba, Béjaïa, Sétif, Biskra, Jijel, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Mostaganem, Relizane, El M’Ghair, and Tizi Ouzou. Export channels were simultaneously activated through seaports, airports, and logistical hubs, including the ports of Oran and Arzew, as well as Algiers International Airport, highlighting a coordinated multi-modal export strategy.

Rezig described the initiative as “the largest export operation organised in a single day,” framing it as a milestone in Algeria’s evolving export policy architecture. He further emphasised that 2026 is intended to function as a “benchmark year for exports,” aligned with presidential directives aimed at strengthening non-hydrocarbon revenues and consolidating Algeria’s presence in international markets.

Beyond its symbolic value, the operation reflects a broader policy shift towards embedding export culture within national production systems. The minister underscored that Algerian products are increasingly gaining competitiveness in foreign markets, attributing this to improvements in quality standards, production capacity, and logistical coordination.
