Rezig Urges Algerian Exporters to Seize Africa’s Economic Frontier Ahead of 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair

Algiers, Algeria | June 21st, 2025 — In a firm call to action, Algeria’s Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, on Saturday urged Algerian economic operators to aggressively position themselves in the African marketplace, calling it “the largest commercial space by population,” and emphasizing its strategic importance for Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon export expansion.

Speaking in Blida during an informational day under the theme “The African Commercial Challenge 2025,” Rezig stressed the significance of Algeria’s hosting of the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) from September 4 to 10, 2025—a milestone that he described as a golden opportunity for Algerian enterprises to penetrate deep into African markets and secure robust partnership agreements.

“The challenge is real and urgent,” Rezig affirmed, addressing a gathering of public and private sector stakeholders. “It is the responsibility of all—government officials, business leaders, and export pioneers—to ensure Algeria’s strategic presence across the continent and sign as many bilateral and multilateral trade agreements as possible during this high-level event.”

Rezig underscored the immense export potential Algeria holds, particularly in sectors such as agri-food, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, and services. He cited President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s strategic orientation as the foundation for Algeria’s growing African footprint, noting recent government achievements including the opening of multiple land border crossings with Sub-Saharan countries and the establishment of free trade zones, key enablers for accelerated continental trade.

In this context, the minister announced the upcoming launch of Algeria’s largest initiative dedicated to exporters, in collaboration with the Algerian Export Credit and Insurance Company (CAGEX). This initiative, he said, will offer tools, financial backing, and networking opportunities to exporters ready to compete in African markets.

The event was also attended by Major-General Abdelhafid Bakhouche, Director General of Algerian Customs, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Trade and a host of private sector actors. Rezig confirmed that a series of preparatory events and field visits will follow in the lead-up to IATF 2025, aiming to mobilize stakeholders nationwide and align them with Algeria’s regional economic vision.

Rachid Bouhamed, President of the Club of Entrepreneurs and Industrialists (CEI), co-organizer of the session with the Higher School of Commerce, praised the initiative as a “reflection of a shared determination among Algerian operators to ensure the success of this major event.” The day included presentations from trade experts, government officials, and institutional representatives, all underscoring the strategic necessity of expanding Algeria’s African commercial presence.
