Rif Leaders Oversee Opening of Rif Representation Office in Algeria, Advocating for Riffians, their Cause

ALGIERS- In a move aimed at representing the Rif people and their cause, prominent Rif leaders oversaw the inauguration of the Rif Representation Office in Algeria on Saturday, March 2nd, in the capital city. Members of the National Rif Council and affiliates of the National Rif Party in Algeria announced, as reported exclusively by the Algerian electronic channel Dzair Tube, the establishment and opening of the Rif Representation Office, marking a significant milestone for Rif representation.

This development is not surprising, given Algiers’ longstanding reputation as a “Mecca for revolutionaries,” particularly under the reign of the New Algeria, which is reconnecting with its noble traditions of supporting the liberation struggles of oppressed peoples, including those in Palestine, Western Sahara, and Rif, where activists are relentlessly pursued and persecuted within the Cherifian Kingdom.

The opening ceremony featured the raising of the Rif Republic flag, accompanied by the Rif national anthem, symbolizing the pride and unity of the Rif community.

Youba al-Ghadioui, a prominent Rif leader, delivered a message during the event, attended by Rif activists, emphasizing the primary objectives of the office. He highlighted its role as an extension of the National Rif Council, aiming to strengthen the historical relationship between the Rif and Algerian peoples, built on coordination and alignment of ideas and goals for the mutual benefit of both communities and the broader region.

El Ghadioui shed light on the importance of setting up the Rif Representation Office in Algeria, highlighting that it symbolizes acknowledgment of the deep-rooted historical, social, and cultural connections between the Rif community and the Algerian population.

Moreover, he emphasized the commitment of Rif activists to raise awareness of the Rif cause internationally and advocate for the representation of the Rif people and their cause in international forums. This initiative aligns with the political and diplomatic efforts of the National Rif Party to build fraternal relations between the Rif people and African and North African nations, with a focus on enhancing security, prosperity, and stability.

Concluding his message, El Ghadioui expressed gratitude to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, its government, and people for their warm hospitality and reception. He noted that Algeria’s support is consistent with its history of backing liberation movements worldwide, as described by the African Party leader, Amilcar Cabral.

The Riffians have been fighting against the predatory regime of the Makhzen and its deeply corrupt monarchy for decades. This struggle traces back to the heroic resistance led by Abdelkrim El Khettabi, who passed away on February 6, 1963. His legacy continues through worthy descendants, notably Nacer Zefzafi, leader of the Rif movement that emerged during the so-called “Arab Spring” era. Zefzafi, arrested in 2017, is currently imprisoned and subjected to brutal torture by the henchmen of Abdellatif Hammouchi, along with dozens of other activists.
