Robust Growth Forecast for Algerian Industry: 7.5% in 2024, 9% in 2025, and 9.3% in 2026

ALGIERS- The industrial sector is gradually awakening from its slumber to play a pivotal role in the country’s economic development. The year 2024 promises the effective revival of this sector, with sustained growth in production volume, according to the government’s projections for the next three years.

The government aims for a growth rate of 7.5% during the current year, increasing to 9% in 2025 and 9.3% in 2026. This significant growth is expected to coincide with the realization of numerous investment projects, both public and private, entering the production phase. Sectors such as agro-food, steel, and automobile industries are anticipated to contribute significantly to the growth of production volume in the industrial sector.

Simultaneously, a new policy promoting investment has been implemented. Various measures have been taken to support productive investment, including easing the allocation of industrial land and providing tax incentives to economic operators under the new investment law. These measures continue to attract private investors.

Figures from the National Agency for Investment Promotion suggest a promising future for the industrial sector. Since its launch in 2022, over 4000 projects have been registered on the platform, with 50% of investment projects in the industrial sector. These factors underscore the government’s ambition to achieve higher production volume growth rates than previously realized in the industrial sector.

The government’s focus on developing this strategic sector is driven by the need to meet the evolving demands of a growing local market and support the country’s ambitions in exports. The efforts to explore new emerging markets in Africa and the initiatives to enhance Algeria’s presence on the continent require an increase in production volumes.

This aligns with the government’s priority of boosting non-hydrocarbon exports through industrial growth. Tangible manifestations of this policy include signing agreements with African countries, with the latest being the integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area. This strategic move is complemented by the opening of commercial representations in Senegal, Mauritania, and others, showcasing Algeria’s commitment to regional economic integration and expansion.
