Sahrawi Civilian Prisoners of Gdeim Izik Continue Hunger Strike in Moroccan Prisons

ALGIERS- The Sahrawi civilian prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group, incarcerated in various Moroccan prisons, persist in their hunger strike as a sign of solidarity with fellow Sahrawi civilian prisoner Hassan Mohamed Radi Dah, who is currently on an open-ended hunger strike, reports the Sahrawi Press Service (SPS).

Citing the Sahrawi Detainees Protection League in Moroccan Prisons, the SPS disclosed that the 48-hour hunger strike initiated by the Sahrawi civilian prisoners on Thursday is intended to condemn the ill-treatment suffered by Radi Dah within the confines of the central prison of Kenitra. Additionally, it is a protest against the policy of racial discrimination employed by the General Delegation for Penitentiary Administration.
The League asserts that the practices of the delegation aim to erase the Sahrawi identity and political status of the prisoners, who were arbitrarily detained to evade legal and moral responsibilities.
In a related development, the administration of the central prison in Kenitra refused on Wednesday to acknowledge the receipt of strike notices signed by the Sahrawi civilian prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group. These notices explained the reasons behind the hunger strike and highlighted the Sahrawi identity and political status of each detainee. In response, the prisoners resorted to utilizing complaint and correspondence boxes within the prisons to make their voices heard.
The hunger strike by these Sahrawi civilian prisoners serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing Moroccan aggressions and the ill-treatment of Sahrawi individuals in Moroccan detention facilities.
