Said Sayoud Reviews Government Priorities, Strengthens Public Service Oversight

Algiers – November 2025 – In a move reflecting Algeria’s commitment to efficient governance and public safety, Minister of Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, Mr. Said Sayoud, presided over a coordination meeting in Algiers on Sunday. The session, as reported by the Ministry, focused on reviewing sectoral work and examining priority dossiers on the government agenda.
Road Safety and Traffic Code Reform: A Strategic Imperative
Minister Sayoud underscored the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune regarding the draft law amending the Road Code. Emphasizing both prevention and security, he called for the swift integration of new measures, including revised sanctions, enhanced driver training in driving schools, strict control of heavy vehicle overloads, and comprehensive medical evaluations coupled with drug and psychotropic substance testing.
He further highlighted the importance of implementing electronic payment systems for fines and establishing precise regulations regarding vehicles prohibited on highways. “These measures reflect the President’s unwavering commitment to strengthening road safety and accident prevention,” the Minister affirmed.
Terrestrial Transport: Addressing Deficiencies and Improving Public Service
Turning to the national transport sector, Sayoud emphasized its vital role in citizens’ daily lives. He instructed the rectification of operational shortcomings on key lines, particularly those connecting the peripheries of Algiers and emerging urban hubs nationwide.
The Minister called for enhanced coverage by public urban and suburban transport companies, alongside the development of railway networks to meet growing demand. He stressed rigorous oversight to ensure compliance with schedules, service standards, and hygiene protocols. Additionally, Sayoud demanded close monitoring of the national bus import program aimed at renewing the fleet according to the established timeline.
Modernization of Ports and Airports: Toward Efficiency and Sustainability
On the infrastructure front, Minister Sayoud outlined a clear strategy for accelerating the modernization of ports, leveraging advanced loading and unloading technologies, and designating pilot ports as models for national replication. He emphasized fostering partnerships with specialized international operators and collaborating with the Ministries of Environment, Energy, and Scientific Research to integrate sustainable, eco-friendly solutions into port infrastructure.
Regarding the Algiers airport modernization project, Sayoud stressed the urgency of finalizing contractual procedures to swiftly transition to the implementation phase.
Unannounced Inspections: Ensuring Accountability and Public Service Quality
Concluding the session, the Minister reviewed a preliminary report on unannounced inspections conducted across multiple wilayas, covering school conditions, urban cleanliness, and climate-related risk prevention. In response to these findings, Sayoud issued further instructions and announced a subsequent meeting to examine the final reports in detail, reinforcing the government’s dedication to transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centered service.
