Saïdal Launches First Pharmaceutical Export to Mauritania

A Strategic Shipment of Pediatric Paracetamol Marks the Beginning of a New Era in Algerian-Mauritanian Pharmaceutical Cooperation

Algiers, Algeria | July 2nd, 2025 — In a move reinforcing Algeria’s expanding influence in the African pharmaceutical sector, the state-owned pharmaceutical group Saïdal announced on Wednesday the successful export of its first shipment of medicines to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The operation was carried out from the Port of Algiers and signals the beginning of a new chapter in South-South health cooperation.

According to Mr. Younes Bouarara, Director General of the Saïdal Group, this inaugural shipment—consisting of 100,000 bottles of pediatric paracetamol—is destined for Mauritania’s Central Procurement Agency for Medicines, Equipment, and Medical Supplies (CAMEC). This strategic delivery follows Saïdal’s successful bid in an international tender launched by the Mauritanian authorities in 2024, which the Algerian group won thanks to its high-quality production standards and competitive pricing.

“This is a proud moment not only for Saïdal but also for Algeria,” said Bouarara. “It reaffirms our ambition to become a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and export, driven by excellence, innovation, and strategic partnerships.”

The export is part of a broader cooperation agreement signed in May 2025 between Saïdal and the Mauritanian company Chinguitty Pharma, a key player in the distribution of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies. The deal aims to facilitate the regular export of various essential medicines to Mauritania in the months ahead, supporting the country’s efforts to strengthen its public health infrastructure and reduce dependency on distant supply chains.

Bouarara also revealed that Saïdal is actively pursuing similar international tenders to expand its export footprint, with particular interest in countries such as Senegal, Chad, and Yemen—markets with growing demand for affordable and high-quality medications.

The initiative comes at a time when African nations are increasingly seeking to localize their pharmaceutical supply chains. Algeria, through Saïdal and its public health vision, is seizing this opportunity to lead by example—delivering health, hope, and healing across borders.
