Sayoud Vows to Modernize Public Services and Bridge Local Disparities

Algiers – September 2025 – In a solemn handover ceremony held Monday, Saïd Sayoud officially assumed his duties as Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, succeeding Brahim Merad, who was appointed Minister of State in charge of the Inspection of State and Local Services.
Expressing deep gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the renewed confidence vested in him, Sayoud underscored the weighty responsibility entrusted to his office, a portfolio intimately tied to the daily concerns of Algerian citizens. He pledged to advance a comprehensive agenda of modernization, positioning the citizen at the very heart of governance, in strict adherence to the President’s directives.
“The modernization of public services, both at the central and local levels, will be my foremost commitment,” Sayoud declared. He stressed that this mission would be achieved through the collective mobilization of the sector’s executives and local actors, fostering a culture of efficiency, accountability, and citizen-centric governance. By leveraging the untapped resources of local communities and empowering municipalities, the new minister aims to reduce long-standing disparities, stimulate solidarity, and ensure a more balanced and equitable local development across the entire national territory.
Sayoud emphasized that the challenges ahead require unwavering dedication and innovative solutions, particularly as Algeria continues to consolidate reforms designed to bring public administration closer to the people. He signaled his determination to sustain and build upon the achievements registered in the Ministry of the Interior, while steering it toward a new era of transparency, responsiveness, and modernized service delivery.
For his part, outgoing minister Brahim Merad extended his heartfelt thanks to President Tebboune for the confidence entrusted to him during his three-year tenure at the helm of such a strategic sector. He congratulated his successor, affirming that the Ministry of the Interior is a vital pillar of the Algerian state, directly linked to citizens’ security, stability, and daily life.
Merad pledged to fully devote himself to his new mission of supervising the State and Local Services Inspection, ensuring rigorous law enforcement and continuous evaluation of public performance. He praised the efforts of civil servants, local officials, and security forces—including the Civil Protection services—whose tireless dedication underpins public safety and the preservation of national order.
