Algiers, Algeria | June 6th, 2025 — In a demonstration of operational excellence and civic responsibility, the Algiers Water and Sanitation Company (SEAAL) successfully navigated the annual spike in water demand during Eid al-Adha by implementing a comprehensive strategy to ensure uninterrupted water and sanitation services in the provinces of Algiers and Tipaza—two of the country’s most densely populated areas.

As Algerians celebrated the holy occasion of Eid al-Adha, SEAAL had already prepared for the challenge well in advance. The company pumped no less than two million cubic meters of potable water into the public network across both wilayas. This consisted of 1.45 million cubic meters of daily production and an additional 550,000 cubic meters stored in advance to reinforce distribution during peak hours.

This massive supply operation was made possible through a strategic balance of three water sources: traditional (dams and wells) and non-traditional (desalinated seawater), especially following the commissioning of two key desalination plants—Fouka II and Cap Djinet II—which significantly enhanced SEAAL’s total production capacity.

Water consumption reached its highest point between 7:30 a.m. and noon, coinciding with Eid prayers and the ritual sacrifice. To avoid network disruptions during this critical period, SEAAL’s technical teams made real-time adjustments to stabilize pressure levels and ensure continued supply.

A centralized operations unit—composed of senior managers and engineers—was activated on the eve of Eid at the Remote Monitoring Center. The unit closely monitored water distribution using technical data from production plants, storage reservoirs, and pressure sensors. In parallel, the operational call center (1594) and SEAAL’s local social media pages served as direct channels to receive and address customer complaints and alerts. This rapid, responsive structure enabled SEAAL to intervene immediately in areas experiencing pressure drops and restore service efficiency.

In the sanitation sector, SEAAL deployed specialized teams around the clock to inspect, clean, and maintain sewage networks and pumping stations. Proactive and preventive interventions were carried out in critical zones prone to blockages. Maintenance efforts were intensified at key lifting stations to ensure full operational capacity, effectively preventing wastewater overflows in residential areas during one of the most sensitive times of the year.

In anticipation of the holiday, SEAAL also launched a wide-reaching awareness campaign to promote responsible water use and protect the sewer systems. The campaign featured a series of video messages with public figures and influencers, which gained remarkable traction online—amassing over five million views. The company also held community awareness sessions and sent SMS alerts to residents of Algiers and Tipaza, urging them to contribute to water conservation efforts.

SEAAL extended its sincere thanks to all individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of the awareness campaign. Religious leaders, community associations, artists, journalists, and digital influencers played a pivotal role in relaying key messages to the public. The company also praised the citizens who responded positively and demonstrated an increased sense of responsibility, which was instrumental in maintaining stable service across both provinces.

As the Eid period concludes, SEAAL reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the continuity of water and sanitation services, with teams remaining on high alert to meet ongoing citizen needs and uphold service quality with efficiency and professionalism.
