Following heavy weather conditions, the Wali of Djelfa has ordered the establishment of a high-level crisis cell to oversee real-time intervention efforts, mobilize public services, and safeguard infrastructure, while emphasizing urgent measures to restore road traffic and prevent flooding.
Algiers, Algeria | May 15th, 2025 — In a decisive move to manage the fallout from severe weather conditions affecting Djelfa, the head of the wilaya’s executive authority activated an emergency crisis cell on Thursday morning at the headquarters of the wilaya. This specialized coordination unit is tasked with monitoring the evolving situation in real time and ensuring an immediate, effective response.
The crisis cell brings together key local officials, including directors of Civil Protection, Public Works, Local Administration, Urban Development and Architecture, Water Resources, and Wastewater Services. It also includes representatives from Sonelgaz and the municipal park services company.
Faced with blocked roads and the disruption of public services, the Wali issued urgent instructions for the full mobilization of all available material and human resources to swiftly clear affected roadways and restore traffic flow across the region. He underlined the imperative of acting without delay and called for systematic cleaning of gutters and stormwater inlets to prevent potential flooding.
Particular emphasis was placed on energy security, with the Wali directing the Sonelgaz representative to guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply and ensure the protection of the power generation plant. He also instructed that an operational duty system be established to enable immediate technical intervention in the event of emergencies.
