ALGIERS- After a three-month hiatus, the production units of the SIDER complex in El Hadjar, Annaba, have resumed their activities with the restart of the blast furnace, as announced in a statement by the IMETAL Group on Wednesday.
The statement clarified that the El Hadjar steel complex, under the SIDER Group, a subsidiary of the IMETAL Group, “commenced its effective production” following the restart of the blast furnace on December 19, 2023.
Sider El Hadjar’s units were put back into operation on January 1, 2024, starting with the transfer of molten iron from the blast furnace to steel mills 1 and 2, and the electric steel mill, awaiting the arrival of semi-finished products at the rolling mills.
The blast furnace restart operation was initiated after a three-month shutdown, resolving the issue of coke (coal) unavailability, essential for the blast furnace’s operation.
Karim Boulayoune, the CEO of the complex, stated that a “program has been established with production targets for 2024, exceeding 600,000 tons of marketable steel products, compared to 300,000 tons in 2023.”
The complex, employing over 5,500 workers, specializes in the production of flat and long ferrous products, reinforcing bars, seamless tubes, and various other steel products.
