ALGIERS-  On Sunday, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Laaziz Faid, oversaw the launch of the model city project for electronic payments at the National School of Mathematics in the new city of Sidi Abdellah, located in Algiers.

Initiated by the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF), this project aims to generalize the use of electronic payment methods.

“The expected objectives of this project are to equip all merchants with acceptance devices and citizens with CIB and EDAHABIA payment cards, in order to conduct the majority of commercial transactions electronically using payment cards or QR codes in the city of Sidi Abdellah. This initiative will create a dynamic of competitiveness among cities for the development and widespread use of electronic payment methods, and will contribute to achieving the goal of financial inclusion in Algeria,” assured a statement from ABEF.

The idea to be expanded

Speaking on this occasion, Minister Faid praised this initiative, affirming that the idea will be expanded to all provinces of the country: “The idea is to be encouraged, and we will work to generalize the creation of model cities for electronic payments across all provinces of the country,” he declared.

Mr. Faid also unveiled a new initiative for the development of electronic payments in Algeria, involving the Ministry of Higher Education: “Open days on monetary culture will be organized in our universities starting next week,” he assured.
