Algiers – September 2025 – In a pivotal diplomatic encounter underscoring Algeria’s growing engagement with international institutions, Acting Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb welcomed on Wednesday Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at the Government Palace. The visit, described by officials as both symbolic and strategic, reaffirms Algeria’s ambition to strengthen its role as a key player in innovation, intellectual property governance, and cultural heritage protection.
During their talks, both parties conducted an in-depth assessment of the state of bilateral cooperation while laying out an ambitious roadmap for its future trajectory. Central to the discussions was the reinforcement of programs in vital sectors, including industrial development, the promotion of innovation, specialized training, and the consolidation of intellectual property frameworks. A shared determination was voiced to leverage intellectual property as a cornerstone for sustainable economic diversification and knowledge-driven growth in Algeria.
The meeting also gave prominence to Algeria’s cultural and historical heritage, emphasizing the importance of protecting and valorizing it through international mechanisms of intellectual property law. In this regard, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to mobilize expertise and resources, ensuring that Algerian creativity, research, and heritage receive enhanced recognition and protection on the global stage.
One of the highlights of Mr. Tang’s visit was the official inauguration of WIPO’s liaison office in Algiers, a step described by both delegations as a decisive catalyst in revitalizing cooperation.
