Six Terrorists Neutralized in Tébessa: General Saïd Chanegriha Hails “Heroic Operation”

Algiers – September 2025 – In a decisive blow against terrorism, the People’s National Army (ANP) neutralized six terrorists on Tuesday night in Tlidjene, within the military sector of Tébessa, in Algeria’s 5th Military Region. The large-scale operation also resulted in the recovery of six Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, a considerable quantity of ammunition, and various other effects, according to a communiqué issued by the Ministry of National Defence (MDN).
The Chief of Staff of the ANP, Army General Saïd Chanegriha, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Defence, immediately travelled to the operation site alongside Major General Noureddine Hambli, Commander of the 5th Military Region. He personally inspected the units involved and addressed the soldiers, commending their exceptional courage and devotion. Chanegriha lauded the engagement as a “heroic operation,” transmitting the congratulations of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, to the troops on the ground.
In his remarks, General Chanegriha underlined the imperative of relentless vigilance and unwavering determination to safeguard Algeria’s security and sovereignty. He urged the forces to intensify their efforts, stressing that “the eradication of the remnants of terrorist groups is a sacred duty, inseparable from the honour of serving the nation.”
The MDN communiqué emphasized that this successful action, which joins the list of numerous qualitative operations conducted by ANP detachments, reaffirms the army’s firm commitment to cleanse Algeria of all vestiges of terrorism and to ensure that this scourge is permanently uprooted from national soil.
Beyond counterterrorism, the communiqué highlighted the ANP’s broader vigilance against organized crime, drug trafficking, illegal gold mining, and cross-border criminality. Over the past week alone, combined units of the ANP intercepted fifty drug traffickers, seizing more than seven quintals of processed cannabis and over 370,000 psychotropic tablets. In the south, operations against illegal mining led to the arrest of over 600 individuals, with significant seizures including vehicles, mining tools, and raw minerals destined for illicit trade.
Moreover, operations dismantling smuggling networks yielded substantial results, with security forces confiscating weapons, over 51,000 litres of fuel, hundreds of quintals of tobacco, and more than 30 tonnes of contraband foodstuffs. Parallel efforts by the Coast Guard foiled several illegal migration attempts along Algeria’s Mediterranean coast, rescuing 251 individuals attempting dangerous crossings in makeshift boats, while security services arrested 832 illegal migrants of various nationalities nationwide.
