Somalia Inaugurates New Embassy in Algiers: A Milestone in African Unity and Strategic Partnership

Algiers, Algeria | In a ceremony laden with symbolism and strategic significance, the Federal Republic of Somalia officially inaugurated its new embassy in Algiers on Sunday evening, cementing a renewed chapter in the historic and fraternal ties between the two nations. The event, attended by Algeria’s Secretary of State for African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, and Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, underscored a shared vision for unity, cooperation, and continental solidarity.

Mansouri described the new embassy not merely as a diplomatic facility, but as “a living bridge of communication and a platform to deepen cooperation between two peoples bound by a common destiny.” She emphasized that this step reflects the long-standing bonds of brotherhood, mutual support in times of adversity, and coordinated action in regional and international arenas to defend just causes.

Both Algeria and Somalia currently serve as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, an alignment that offers unprecedented opportunities for intensified coordination on the global stage. Mansouri highlighted the need to leverage this joint mandate to amplify Africa’s voice, defend the continent’s priorities, and advance peace and development across regions such as the Horn of Africa and the Sahel.

For his part, Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali hailed the inauguration as “a defining moment” in the bilateral relationship, characterizing it as more than an administrative milestone—it is, he asserted, “the embodiment of a centuries-old relationship and a shared destiny between our nations and peoples.” He stressed Somalia’s commitment, under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to state-building, security consolidation, and economic revitalization, noting that Algeria’s regional stature and respected voice on the world stage make it an indispensable partner.

He also expressed deep gratitude for Algeria’s unwavering support during Somalia’s most challenging moments, underlining that this solidarity goes beyond diplomacy, rooted in genuine fraternal ties.

The inauguration, attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria, stands as a concrete reaffirmation of both nations’ determination to broaden cooperation, serve their peoples’ aspirations, and advance the collective African agenda for peace, stability, and prosperity.
