Sonarem Strengthens Strategic Partnership with Egypt to Boost Marble Exports

Algiers – October 2025 – In a decisive step toward expanding Algeria’s footprint in the global stone industry, the National Company for Marble (Sonarem), under the leadership of its CEO Belkacem Soltani, convened a high-level meeting focused on scaling up marble and calcium carbonate exports in partnership with Egypt. The gathering, attended by Mohamed Ali El-Azzaly of the Arab Republic of Egypt, builds upon the commitments sealed at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025).
The session brought together senior executives, including Hamid Zeitoun, CEO of ENG, and Mohamed Besskari, CEO of ENAMARBRE, alongside Sonarem’s senior management. Central to the discussions was the operationalization of a memorandum of understanding that envisions the export of 600,000 m³ of marble in the short and medium term, coupled with significant volumes of calcium carbonate—an agreement emblematic of the deepening Algerian-Egyptian synergy in mining and mineral valorization.
In his remarks, Soltani underscored the strategic role of the marble sector in Sonarem’s development roadmap, pointing to Algeria’s unmatched production potential and the high quality of its deposits. He emphasized ongoing efforts to restructure and modernize production units, with the ultimate aim of positioning Algerian marble—renowned for its crystalline red, black, and white varieties—on the international stage as a premium and competitive resource.
El-Azzaly, for his part, expressed keen enthusiasm for Algeria’s marble, noting its already robust demand in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Indonesia, Malaysia, and beyond. He proposed the establishment of an exclusive marketing agency, supported by competitive pricing and agile logistics, to unlock new markets and extend Algeria’s reach to regions where its marble remains underrepresented.
The two parties agreed to organize site visits to national quarries to better assess production capacities and explore avenues for joint investment.
