Sonarem Unveils 2026–2028 Roadmap to Accelerate Mining Development and Industrial Integration

ALGIERS, March 27th, 2026 — In a move reflecting Algeria’s strategic ambition to position its mining sector as a key driver of economic diversification, Sonarem presented its 2026–2028 roadmap during a meeting held at its headquarters. The initiative forms part of the broader implementation of the directives set forth by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening national productive capacities and advancing industrial transformation.
The roadmap was outlined through a comprehensive presentation, highlighting a series of priority projects designed to accelerate the development and exploitation of major mining assets. Among the most prominent are the iron ore deposit of Gara Djebilet, the zinc and lead project in Oued Amizour, as well as integrated phosphate developments. These projects are expected to significantly enhance domestic production capabilities while reinforcing downstream industrial value chains.
Participants also underscored the strategic importance of revitalizing the marble sector, identified as a promising segment with substantial potential for value creation. The proposed approach emphasizes the adoption of modern industrial methods capable of strengthening the competitiveness of national products in both domestic and international markets.
A central pillar of the roadmap is the comprehensive development of the iron value chain, encompassing exploration, extraction, and transformation. This integrated approach aims to reduce reliance on external markets, consolidate national industrial integration, and foster high-value strategic partnerships that facilitate technology transfer and expertise development.
In parallel, Sonarem is advancing a broader vision of modernization in response to ongoing global transformations. This vision is anchored in the expansion of digitalization across operations, the optimization of management practices, and the reinforcement of governance and transparency standards, with the objective of ensuring greater efficiency in project implementation.
Human capital was also identified as a critical component of this transformation. The roadmap places strong emphasis on investing in national competencies through enhanced training programs, while promoting a culture of performance and innovation across the group’s various entities.
Within this framework, Ahmed Bekhouch, expert and advisor to the CEO, presented the strategic vision and key pillars of the 2026–2028 roadmap. Reda Belhadj, for his part, stressed the importance of implementing this ambitious plan with rigor and dynamism, calling for sustained mobilization across all teams.
The meeting concluded with recognition of the efforts undertaken by the group’s different structures, with special commendation extended to the team in Akbou for their performance. This acknowledgment reflects a broader institutional culture rooted in cohesion, commitment, and a shared drive toward achieving the group’s strategic objectives.
