Sonatrach CEO Inspects Strategic Gas Processing Project in Ouargla

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 15, 2025 | As part of its ambitious strategy to modernize industrial infrastructure and strengthen production capacities, Sonatrach continues to push forward with the construction of major hydrocarbon facilities. Among the flagship undertakings is the Associated Petroleum Gas Processing Complex under development in Gourd El-Baghl, in the southern province of Ouargla.

In a high-level field visit held today, Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi, accompanied by Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Italian energy engineering company Tecnimont, inspected the project site, joined by senior executives from both companies. The visit aimed to assess the progress of this strategic industrial complex, which is expected to significantly elevate Sonatrach’s gas production capacity upon commissioning.

During the visit, technical teams from Sonatrach and Tecnimont, which is overseeing the project’s execution, presented a comprehensive progress report. The overall completion rate of the project has reached 84%, with construction works at 58%, and full operational launch anticipated in 2026, in line with the pre-established timeline.

Once operational, the complex will process 10 million cubic meters of associated petroleum gas per day, producing approximately 1,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), 300 tons of condensates, and 8.7 million cubic meters of dry gas daily. These outputs are expected to play a critical role in expanding Algeria’s downstream capacity and optimizing the use of valuable byproducts of crude oil extraction.

Sonatrach emphasized that this project forms an essential component in its production ecosystem, designed to bolster energy security and reinforce Algeria’s position as a reliable supplier on the global hydrocarbon market.
