Sonatrach, Chevron Seek to Operationalize the 2024 Framework Agreement

Algiers – October 2025 – In a step toward deepening energy cooperation between Algeria and the United States, the President and CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, received on Wednesday a high-ranking delegation from the American energy giant Chevron, led by its Executive Director for Business Development and Institutional Affairs, Frank Mount. The meeting, held at Sonatrach’s headquarters, marked a continuation of strategic dialogue between the two companies and reaffirmed their shared commitment to transforming their framework agreement, signed on June 13, 2024, into tangible joint ventures.
According to a statement released by Sonatrach on Thursday, the discussions brought together senior executives from both sides, who exchanged insights on the current status of cooperation and reviewed progress made toward implementing the provisions of the 2024 framework agreement. The accord focuses on the joint development of hydrocarbon resources in two of Algeria’s most promising energy basins — Berkine and Ahnet — which hold substantial oil and gas potential crucial to both parties’ strategic objectives.
The meeting underscored the shared determination of Sonatrach and Chevron to strengthen their partnership within a mutually beneficial framework that aligns with Algeria’s national energy strategy and Chevron’s global ambitions in upstream exploration and production. Both sides reiterated their intention to accelerate ongoing technical and economic assessments to translate the framework agreement into concrete exploration and production projects that would enhance Algeria’s energy output and reinforce its position as a leading player in the global hydrocarbon market.
Sonatrach’s communiqué emphasized that this cooperation embodies a broader vision for sustainable development, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange, consistent with Algeria’s approach to modernizing its energy sector through strategic alliances with reputable international partners.
