Sonatrach Consolidates National Energy Sovereignty with Strategic Contracts Worth 60 Billion DZD

Algiers – September 2025 – In a landmark move underscoring Algeria’s unyielding commitment to consolidating its energy sovereignty and fortifying its industrial ecosystem, the national hydrocarbons giant, Sonatrach, has formalized the signing of three pivotal contracts with leading Algerian enterprises. The agreements, amounting to an impressive 60 billion dinars, were inked on Monday at the Group’s headquarters in Algiers, in the presence of Sonatrach’s Chief Executive Officer, Rachid Hachichi, alongside senior executives and representatives of the contracting firms.
The contracts, which target the expansion and modernization of transport infrastructure through pipelines, are emblematic of Sonatrach’s unwavering strategy to prioritize national production capacities while ensuring the integration of local expertise and technology. By reinforcing domestic industry, the initiative not only elevates Algeria’s energy resilience but also positions the country as a formidable player in the regional and global hydrocarbon markets.
The enterprises entrusted with this monumental responsibility include Cosider Canalisations, the National Pipeline Company (ENAC), Maghreb Pipe Industries, SARPI, and GCB. Their selection reflects the Algerian government’s clear intention to empower local champions of industry, ensuring that strategic national projects remain rooted in domestic capacities rather than outsourced to foreign entities.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Rachid Hachichi reaffirmed Sonatrach’s pivotal role as the backbone of Algeria’s economy, stressing that such projects are not merely infrastructural in nature but bear profound geopolitical weight. “These contracts embody our vision of an Algeria that is self-reliant, technologically capable, and fully sovereign in its management of vital energy resources. By mobilizing national expertise, we are shaping the future of Algeria’s energy landscape while safeguarding its independence,” he asserted.
Observers note that the scope of these contracts will extend beyond mere infrastructure development, creating a cascade of economic benefits ranging from job creation to the advancement of local industries and technological capabilities. Moreover, they will anchor Algeria’s strategy of maximizing the value of its natural resources while simultaneously reducing external dependency in critical sectors.
