Sonatrach Establishes a Subsidiary for the Strategic Management of Douera Stadium

Algiers, Algeria | In a move underscoring its dual commitment to national development and the consolidation of sports infrastructure, Algeria’s energy giant Sonatrach has officially approved the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary tasked with managing and exploiting the newly built Ali Ammar Stadium, widely known as “Ali La Pointe,” in Douera, Algiers.

The decision, ratified during an extraordinary general assembly of the group, comes as part of the practical implementation of directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who called for the establishment of an independent economic entity to administer this high-profile facility in the interest of the Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MCA).

The new entity, named the Société de Gestion et d’Exploitation des Infrastructures Sportives et de Loisirs (SOGISL), will be held entirely by the holding company Sonatrach Activités Extérieures et Support (H. SAES), itself a subsidiary of the Sonatrach Group. According to the company’s official communiqué, the mandate of SOGISL is to ensure “a rigorous and transparent management of the stadium, safeguarding its maintenance and durability, while maximizing its installations and unlocking its full potential.”

This undertaking will not only provide the MCA with a world-class facility that meets international standards but also enhance Algeria’s sports infrastructure landscape by setting a benchmark in modern stadium management. Sonatrach emphasized that services provided under this framework will reflect the prestige and standing of the facility, which is projected to become a cornerstone of Algerian football and a hub for large-scale events.

Beyond its economic rationale, the establishment of SOGISL is also deeply embedded in Sonatrach’s corporate philosophy. The group reaffirmed that this initiative translates its enduring commitment to social responsibility, blending the imperatives of economic performance with a mission of national cohesion and cultural valorization. “As a citizen enterprise, Sonatrach reiterates its dedication to supporting and advancing national sports while enhancing the value of key infrastructure in service of sustainable development,” the communiqué highlighted.
