Aïn Témouchent— Algeria’s national energy company, Sonatrach, announced today that the Chatt El Hilal seawater desalination plant in Beni Saf, located in the province of Aïn Témouchent, has officially surpassed the threshold of one billion cubic meters of desalinated water since its commissioning in 2009. The milestone was reached precisely at 12:26 PM.

The plant, which operates under the Sonatrach subsidiary “Algerian Energy Company” in partnership with Beni Saf Water Company, stands as a testament to the efficiency and reliability of the operational, maintenance, and management systems implemented by the group.

This achievement highlights Sonatrach’s strategic commitment to strengthening Algeria’s water security and its vital contribution to ensuring sustainable access to potable water for the population.

With a daily production capacity of 200,000 cubic meters, the Chatt El Hilal facility plays a pivotal role in the desalinated water supply system for the provinces of Oran and Aïn Témouchent. Its continued operation supports local development and reinforces the economic resilience of the region.

Sonatrach reaffirmed its dedication to investing in critical infrastructure beyond hydrocarbons, particularly in areas that directly impact public well-being. The sustained performance of this plant further underscores the group’s broader vision of integrating energy and water sustainability as pillars of national progress.
