Sonatrach Signals Readiness to Resume Operations in Niger Amid Strategic Energy Dialogues

๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ โ ๐๐ช๐ท๐พ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐๐๐๐ โย In a development highlighting Algeriaโs unwavering commitment to regional energy cooperation, the Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held high-level discussions in Niamey this Monday with his Nigerien counterpart, Hamad Tinni, Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of Niger.
The talks were hosted at the headquarters of the Nigerien Ministry of Petroleum and were attended by Noureddine Daoudi, Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, Bouarara Cherif, Director General of Sonatrach International Holding (SIPEX), senior officials from the Algerian and Nigerien ministries, as well as the Chargรฉ dโAffaires and representatives of the Algerian Embassyโs diplomatic corps in Niamey.
The discussions were subsequently extended to include broader delegations from both sides, notably officials from the Nigerien Ministry of Petroleum and the Nigerien Petroleum Products Company (SONIDEP), with a focus on the latest developments in Sonatrachโs operations in Niger. A central element of the dialogue was the monitoring and advancement of the research and exploration project at the Kafra oil field, located in northern Niger.
During his address, Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeriaโs readiness, through Sonatrach and its subsidiaries, to resume previously agreed-upon activities under the framework of the Kafra research and exploration project. This declaration underscores Algeriaโs strategic intent to maintain a strong and proactive presence in the Nigerien energy sector.
The meeting also served as a platform to review the progress of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, assess its various components, and evaluate the implementation of decisions reached during prior tripartite ministerial meetings convening the energy ministers of Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria.
