Sonatrach Wins Global Award at World Gas Conference in Beijing

Dr. Nadia Hadoum honored for pioneering solutions in carbon reservoir drilling instability, reaffirming Algeria’s scientific excellence and Sonatrach’s global leadership in the energy sector

Algiers, Algeria | May 25th, 2025 —  At the 29th edition of the World Gas Conference (WGC 2025), held from May 19 to 23 in Beijing, China, Algeria’s national oil and gas giant Sonatrach was honored with an international award recognizing the company’s best practices across the entire gas value chain. The recognition came as part of the “Industry Award for Best Practices Across the Full Value Chain” — one of the conference’s highest distinctions.

The accolade was awarded in recognition of a technical presentation delivered by Dr. Nadia Hadoum, Project Leader at the Executive Directorate for Business Development and Marketing at Sonatrach. Her research paper, entitled “Innovative Solutions for Managing Instability in Drilling Carbonate Reservoir Wells,” was selected by an international reading committee from among hundreds of global submissions — each subjected to a rigorous evaluation process involving leading experts in the gas industry.

Dr. Hadoum’s contribution not only captivated the technical audience during the panel session but also earned her special acknowledgment during the presentation, followed by the official award ceremony held on May 23. The work offered state-of-the-art solutions to a critical challenge in hydrocarbon exploration, reinforcing Sonatrach’s image as a pioneer in operational innovation and engineering excellence.

Sonatrach, in an official communiqué following the award, declared:

“This international recognition at such a strategic global event is a testament to the superior expertise and excellence of Sonatrach’s professionals, notably Dr. Nadia Hadoum. It underlines the high-level capabilities and deep scientific knowledge that Sonatrach’s workforce brings to the global energy sector.”

This is not the first time Dr. Hadoum has been internationally honored for her scientific contributions. In 2023, she won the First Prize for Best Oral Presentation at the 18th International Petroleum Conference held in Johannesburg. She was also selected by Sonatrach to represent Algeria as a member of the Arab Women in STEM Forum, in recognition of her outstanding contributions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
