Sonelgaz, Algérie Poste Sign E-Payment Agreement to Revolutionize Utility Billing

A new digital partnership empowers Edahabia cardholders to pay electricity and gas bills via BaridiMob, boosting Algeria’s e-governance agenda

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 15, 2025 |  In a major step toward accelerating Algeria’s digital transformation and improving public service delivery, Sonelgaz Distribution, a subsidiary of the national electricity and gas group Sonelgaz, has signed a framework agreement with Algérie Poste to enable secure online payment of utility bills via the BaridiMob mobile application. The agreement, sealed on Monday in Algiers, is expected to significantly enhance citizen access to digital financial services while reinforcing the state’s commitment to modernizing its administrative interface.

Supervised by Minister of State for Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, and Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, the signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Sonelgaz. It brought together top executives including Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal, the acting Director General of Algérie Poste, and senior officials from both ministries.

Edahabia integration into BaridiMob: A step toward universal digital inclusion

The agreement enables Sonelgaz clients who possess the Edahabia card to pay their electricity and gas bills online in complete security using BaridiMob—eliminating the need to physically visit commercial agencies. This initiative is part of a broader government directive, as instructed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to institutionalize digitalization across public services. The ultimate goal is to create an efficient, transparent administration that places citizens at the center of its operational priorities.

According to the joint communiqué, this partnership marks a critical shift in Algeria’s trajectory toward e-governance, with a focus on user-centric service delivery, financial inclusion, and operational modernization.

Institutional synergy as a model of national progress

Minister Arkab emphasized the strategic nature of the collaboration, calling it a “model of successful institutional complementarity between the energy and postal sectors.” He stated that the agreement reflects his ministry’s unwavering commitment to expanding digital solutions and modernizing public services. “This is not just a digital tool—it is a citizen-focused reform that strengthens public trust and aligns with our national modernization agenda,” Arkab affirmed.

In his remarks, Minister Zerrouki lauded the initiative for democratizing access to cutting-edge digital applications like BaridiMob, thereby broadening the scope of secure, user-friendly digital transactions for Algerians in all regions. “The digital transformation of daily transactions is no longer optional; it is a cornerstone of development and equitable service access,” he added.
