Algiers, Algeria | July 7th, 2025 — In a move that underscores Algeria’s commitment to deepening Arab solidarity and regional integration, Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal received on Tuesday a delegation from Egypt’s General Federation of Public Sector Workers, led by its President, Hicham Ahmed Fouad. The strategic meeting, held at Sonelgaz’s General Directorate in Algiers, marked a pivotal moment in bilateral union diplomacy, as both sides explored a framework for long-term collaboration across key labor and social dimensions.

According to an official statement released by Sonelgaz, the initiative aligns with the vision of Algeria’s top leadership to strengthen partnerships with neighboring Arab nations, particularly in areas of shared socioeconomic interest.

Toward a Structured Union Partnership

The discussions focused on several priority themes: social protection policies, workplace organization, and the enhancement of workers’ rights and conditions. CEO Mourad Adjal highlighted Sonelgaz’s extensive experience in managing social welfare programs and facilitating constructive internal dialogue, praising the Egyptian side’s openness to creating a structured and strategic union partnership.

“This visit is not just ceremonial—it’s the first step in laying a durable foundation for union diplomacy and practical cooperation in human resource development and social solidarity,” Adjal noted.

The talks also brought together representatives from Algeria’s National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers and the UGTA (General Union of Algerian Workers), further reinforcing a trilateral spirit of union coordination.

A Memorandum of Understanding on the Horizon

Both sides agreed on the need to formalize this dynamic by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future. The planned agreement will serve as a roadmap for cross-training programs, technical exchange, and the adoption of best practices in social dialogue and workforce governance.

This forthcoming protocol is expected to open a new chapter in labor diplomacy between Algeria and Egypt, focusing on mutual development, improved worker welfare, and joint union-led initiatives in an increasingly interconnected Arab labor space.
