ALGIERS- In a remarkable stride towards enhancing Algeria’s industrial prowess and global competitiveness, the state-owned energy conglomerate Sonelgaz has embarked on the exportation of crucial spare parts for gas turbines, produced locally through its subsidiary Saieg (Algerian Company of Electrical and Gas Industries).

Yesterday, the company dispatched its fourth shipment to the Netherlands as part of a partnership agreement with the American group General Electric Vernova, aimed at supplying essential spare parts for 9FA gas turbines. Sonelgaz has earned accreditation from GE Vernova as a certified producer and supplier, marking a unique achievement in Africa. Saieg stands as the sole active entity in this domain on the continent, with its products now reaching multiple regions worldwide.

In addition to its established expertise in electricity and electrical equipment, Sonelgaz has ventured into gas turbine production in recent years, in collaboration with GE Vernova. This partnership has materialized through the Geat joint venture, currently advancing into its second phase focused on the repair and maintenance of existing 9FA turbines worldwide. The first gas turbine repair in Algeria is slated for 2025, with efforts underway to increase national integration from 37% to 58% by 2028.

The market demand for Sonelgaz and its subsidiaries is substantial, driven by GE Vernova’s extensive fleet of over 7,000 gas turbines worldwide. This necessitates a significant supply of spare parts and maintenance services, as well as the exportation of Algerian engineering expertise nurtured in this field.

Enhancing national integration remains a paramount objective for Sonelgaz, aiming not only to reduce import expenditures but also to bolster non-hydrocarbon exports. Through this endeavor, the conglomerate seeks to elevate the value of its exports and expand its footprint in international markets by bolstering its productive capacities. In the previous fiscal year, Sonelgaz achieved a record turnover of €219 million in electricity exploration and cutting-edge equipment, highlighting its recent focus on enhancing its subsidiaries and directing production towards external markets.
