Soummam Dairy Expands Its Production Capacity with the Import of 1,000 Pregnant Heifers

Algiers – November 2025 – The Soummam Dairy Group has announced the importation of 1,000 pregnant heifers, primarily from Austria and the Czech Republic, as part of a broad strategic initiative to expand its production capacities and improve genetic quality within its dairy farms.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Soummam emphasized that this large-scale operation aims to bolster milk production across its network of farms while contributing to the genetic improvement and productivity of the national herd.
According to the company, the first batch of 400 heifers, belonging to the Prim’Holstein and Fleckvieh breeds, has already arrived in Algeria. These high-yielding dairy cows were transported under strict animal welfare and safety standards to Soummam’s farms located in Boussaâda, Béni Ilmane (M’Sila), Souk Ahras, Constantine, and Aïn El Beïda — key production hubs within the country’s main dairy basins.
The company added that the second shipment of 600 pregnant heifers is expected to arrive in December, marking what it described as “a new milestone in the implementation of a structural program serving Algeria’s national dairy sovereignty.”
Soummam also highlighted that this initiative complements its extensive network of 6,800 partner breeders distributed throughout the national territory. The company currently operates 11 pilot farms strategically located in Algeria’s principal dairy regions, acting as both production centers and innovation hubs for modern breeding practices.
