Algiers – December 2025 – Marking the 65th anniversary of the historic December 11, 1960 demonstrations, the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, delivered a commemorative message honouring one of the most decisive milestones in Algeria’s anti-colonial struggle. His statement revived a chapter in which the Algerian people asserted, with unwavering clarity, their unity, their political maturity, and their unbreakable bond with the National Liberation Revolution.
Nasri emphasized that the events of December 11 were far more than popular uprisings; they were a national referendum in the streets—an overwhelming declaration of allegiance to the Revolution at a moment when the colonial regime multiplied its manoeuvres to distort reality, fragment the national ranks, and undermine the legitimacy of the liberation movement. The massive mobilisation of the people, he recalled, dismantled these schemes and placed the Algerian cause before the world with renewed force and legitimacy.
He further underlined that the spirit forged on that historic day—an unwavering unity between the people and their leadership—remains deeply embedded in the nation’s collective consciousness. Today, in a context marked by new forms of pressure and attempts at destabilisation, this same spirit of cohesion continues to serve as Algeria’s solid shield and guiding compass. It is this unity, Nasri stressed, that preserves national stability and fortifies the country’s capacity to confront evolving geopolitical challenges.
