Stellantis El Djazair, Sigit Sign Agreement in Rome to Boost Algerian Auto Industry
By Dr. Hana Saada
Stellantis El Djazair marked a significant milestone in the advancement of Algeria’s automotive industry on Wednesday by signing a second subcontracting agreement with the Italian equipment manufacturer Sigit. The agreement, formalized in Rome during the Algerian-Italian intergovernmental summit, aims to produce key plastic components locally for the FIAT factory in Tafraoui, Oran.
This strategic partnership builds upon a fruitful collaboration and underscores a mutual commitment to industrial localization. Under the terms of the agreement, Sigit will work in synergy with the National Company for Plastics and Rubber (ENPC) and its subsidiary Siplast to manufacture essential plastic parts in Algeria—a project rooted in a convention signed in May 2025.
Stellantis El Djazair is driving forward an integrated automotive ecosystem in Algeria. With 13 suppliers currently engaged, the company aims to achieve over 30% local content in vehicles manufactured at the Tafraoui plant.
Raoui Beji, CEO of Stellantis El Djazair, emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration: “The FIAT industrial project in Algeria is today a strong symbol of the strategic cooperation between Algeria and Italy, and this new partnership with Sigit fully illustrates that. It is an additional lever in our determination to build a solid industrial ecosystem, combining international synergies with local anchoring, and reflects our shared ambition to make Algeria a competitive platform for automobile production in the region.”
