Strategic Revival of Cotton Agro-Industrial Plant in Adrar: Minister Yahia Bachir Oversees Rehabilitation Efforts

Algiers – November 2025 – The Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, conducted an inspection visit on Monday to the province of Adrar, where he oversaw the rehabilitation process of the strategic cotton agro-industrial complex owned by the AGRODIV agri-food group. The long-anticipated project, spanning approximately 5,000 hectares, is set to be delivered soon, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry.
The facility, listed among assets recovered by the State, is undergoing a comprehensive technical assessment and an integrated rehabilitation plan aimed at reviving its agricultural and industrial operations. During his visit, Minister Bachir attended a detailed technical presentation outlining the current status of the site, including an inventory of assets, equipment, and industrial infrastructure. The plan, developed in collaboration with certified and specialized engineering offices, provides a roadmap for the project’s full reactivation.
On-site, the Minister inspected the installations and equipment to assess their operational condition and potential. A feasibility study covering both the economic and technical dimensions of the project was also presented. The initiative is expected to significantly boost the local agricultural industry and contribute to Algeria’s broader strategy of industrial diversification and food self-sufficiency.
A particular focus has been placed on capacity-building through a partnership with the Spanish firm LS Alcantara System, aimed at developing local expertise to operate and manage the plant in line with modern international standards.
The ongoing rehabilitation operations include a thorough assessment of wells to ensure their agricultural viability, the restoration of hydraulic networks, and the connection of the facility to the national electricity grid—key measures to guarantee the continuity of both agricultural and industrial activities.
At the conclusion of his visit, Minister Bachir emphasized the importance of removing all administrative and logistical obstacles and adhering to a strict schedule to expedite the completion of the rehabilitation process. He reiterated that the relaunch of the agricultural exploitation and its associated industrial unit should be achieved within the shortest possible timeframe, underscoring the project’s strategic role in revitalizing Algeria’s southern agro-industrial base and strengthening national production capacity.
