Algiers, Algeria | December 6th, 2024 — The Algeria-South Africa Economic Forum officially commenced on Thursday in Algiers, bringing together key stakeholders from both nations with the goal of reinforcing their economic collaboration. Co-chaired by Mohamed Boukhari, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade, and South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, the forum is poised to open new avenues for business partnerships and investment opportunities.
Under the theme “For a Sustainable and Productive Partnership,” the forum is designed to facilitate numerous business-to-business (B2B) meetings between operators from both countries, aimed at exploring untapped opportunities and fostering long-term cooperation. This initiative comes on the heels of the state visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Algeria, further underscoring the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Algeria and South Africa, with their vast economic potential and historically solid bilateral ties, are eager to expand their strategic partnership and explore new sectors for cooperation. The forum aims to identify new growth areas that can benefit both nations, particularly in industries such as agriculture, energy, manufacturing, and technology.
Organized by Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, in coordination with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), and the Council of Algerian Economic Renewal (CREA), the forum attracted over 300 business leaders and economic operators. These participants represent various economic sectors, including automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, ICT, and mining.
This high-level gathering provides an invaluable opportunity for both countries to deepen their business relationships and enhance economic cooperation, paving the way for further growth and prosperity. As Algeria and South Africa continue to build on their shared vision for a mutually beneficial partnership, the forum is expected to deliver substantial outcomes that will have lasting effects on the regional and international economic landscape.
The discussions at the forum reflect a mutual desire to build a resilient and diversified economic partnership that not only contributes to the growth of both nations but also strengthens Africa’s collective position on the global stage.
