Algiers, Algeria | January 13th, 2025 — On Monday morning, Algeria’s Minister of Environment and Life Quality, Nadjiba Djilali, presided over the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between the National Environment and Sustainable Development Observatory and Naftal, the country’s leading fuel distribution company. The event took place at the Ministry’s headquarters and was attended by key officials, further solidifying the commitment to environmental protection and sustainable industrial practices.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, the agreement was signed by the Director General of the National Environment Observatory and the Central Director of Health, Safety, and Environment at Naftal. This collaboration is set to significantly enhance Algeria’s efforts in monitoring and mitigating industrial pollution.
The primary objective of the agreement is to undertake a series of physical, chemical, and organic analyses of the industrial fluids produced by Naftal’s facilities. These analyses will focus on both organic and inorganic materials, aiming to better understand and control pollution sources arising from the company’s operations.
The agreement also emphasizes the continuous monitoring of pollution levels to ensure full compliance with both national and international environmental regulations. In addition, the partnership aims to foster the development of innovative solutions to reduce the negative impact of industrial activities on the environment, aligning with Algeria’s broader goals of sustainable development.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment and Life Quality, the Ministry’s Chief Inspector, the Director General of Environment and Sustainable Development, and a number of senior officials from the Ministry. This agreement marks a significant step toward enhancing environmental governance in Algeria, ensuring that the country remains on track to meet its sustainability targets while addressing the growing challenges of industrial pollution.
Through this collaboration, the National Environment Observatory and Naftal are paving the way for more robust environmental stewardship, aiming to protect the nation’s natural resources for future generations while maintaining a sustainable industrial landscape.
