Algiers – September 2025 – In its July editorial, the military magazine El Djeich offered a striking reminder of the essence of Algeria’s defense doctrine, declaring: “Just as the National Liberation Army (ALN) proved during our glorious Revolution that it was the spearhead of the people, inflicting a crushing defeat on barbaric colonialism and dismantling its foundations, today, the People’s National Army (ANP) stands as the protective shield of the Nation and the sharp sword that will sever the hand of anyone who dares threaten the security and stability of our Homeland.”
This statement encapsulates the profound reality of the ANP: a republican institution deeply rooted in the nation’s historical struggle, which has carried forward the sacred oath of the Revolution. Beyond being a military force, the ANP has established itself as the unshakable pillar of Algeria’s internal front, safeguarding both unity and sovereignty with unwavering resolve.
A Sacred Mission of Protection
Patrolling an immense territory of 2,381,741 km²—the tenth largest country in the world—the ANP shoulders a mission that demands power, vigilance, and sacrifice. Day and night, Algeria’s soldiers guard the homeland’s borders, driven not only by duty but by pride. Their vigilance ensures that Algerians can live in peace, even as long stretches of frontier face volatile and crisis-prone zones. This unrelenting commitment has become a cornerstone of Algeria’s stability and an indispensable precondition for its development.
A Sharp Sword in an Era of Hybrid Warfare
In today’s world, marked by the emergence of fourth and fifth generation wars where proxy conflicts serve hegemonic ambitions, the ANP embodies resilience and sovereignty. It is the sword that strikes decisively, dismantling the remnants of terrorism and neutralizing threats before they can take root. The events of September 23, 2025, in Tébessa, testify to this reality: six terrorists were eliminated in a bold and precise operation, with six Kalashnikov rifles and large quantities of ammunition seized. This victory is but one among many in the ANP’s relentless campaign to eradicate terrorism.
Defending the Nation on All Fronts
The ANP’s efforts extend beyond counterterrorism. It stands as a bulwark against transnational drug trafficking, clandestine migration, and any form of threat that could undermine Algeria’s security or plunder its economic wealth. Under the constant vigilance of the High Command, led by the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Algeria’s army continues to prove itself as a force not only of protection but of deterrence, embodying the values of sacrifice and heroism inherited from the Revolution.
The People’s Army, at the Service of the Nation
The ANP’s essence is inseparable from the people it serves. Its patriotism is not ceremonial but lived daily in the courage of its soldiers. The fruits of their sacrifices are reaped by every citizen across the country, in every wilaya, as they enjoy peace, security, and the stability that so many nations strive for yet fail to achieve.
The ANP remains, as El Djeich reminds us, both shield and sword: an army forged in the crucible of Revolution, committed to defending the Republic, and resolute in its promise that no threat—however great or small—will ever compromise the sovereignty, unity, or stability of Algeria.
